Together for Children is a loose network of organisations and individuals who came together to defend the rights of vulnerable children and young people, during the passage of the Children and Social Work Bill in 2016/17.
We lobbied persistently against clauses in the Bill that would have allowed local councils to opt-out of their legal duties in children’s social care.
Our co-ordinating group included Article 39, Liberty, Nagalro and the National Association of Independent Reviewing Officers.
After our fantastic success – all of the exemption clauses were deleted from the Bill, weeks before it became an Act in April 2017 – we agreed we would stay in touch and be ready to defend the rights of vulnerable children and young people again, should we have to.
